Project Brief.

Design is proposed as contemporary building with aim to reflect understanding and respect to the local culture it’s built in. We aimed to create a Building which will emphasize and recognize Islam as religion that has been supporting and empowering woman though the ages by encouraging them to develop and continuously educate, as a key of the Society for creating educated generations.

The Idea

The center gains its symbolic value from its function, location and future use which is reflected through building’s envelope to everyone observing the building.

The award-winning Moza Bint Mohammed Quran and Daa’wa Center, a remarkable project brought to life by Trust Engineering Consultancy, stands as a testament to its own ingenuity and the spirit of progress in Doha, Qatar. This project, spearheaded by the AWQAF – General Directorate of Endowments, is an Islamic education center with a particular focus on teaching the Quran and Islamic preaching for women. TRUST was assigned for this Project following the International Design competition held by the Client as a 1st prize winner. Project is also shortlisted in World Architecture Festival as best future project in Education field.

Notably, this center is set to become one of the most expansive Islamic education facilities in the MENA region, encompassing an area of approximately 18,557.66 square meters and built-up area of 24, 383 sqm. Its creation is, in many ways, a revival of its predecessor, which stood on the same land before being dismantled due to the expanding infrastructure needs within the city.

The heart of this project, its design intent, is rooted in contemporary yet culturally respectful architecture. It honors the local culture while highlighting the empowering role of Islam in the education of women, shaping societies, and nurturing future generations.

Inspired by the Sidra tree’s sacred flower mentioned in the Quran, the design faithfully replicates its delicate petals, forming a pentagonal shape that symbolizes the five pillars of Islam and the five daily prayer times, seamlessly integrating Islamic elements into the building’s structure and appearance.

The center also incorporates fundamental principles of Islamic architecture, including central courtyards and Mashrabiya, to support sustainable environmental design and uphold the privacy of women. The lush court garden serves as an informal teaching space and a place for congregation, offering shade and comfort to its users.

Beyond aesthetics, the Moza Bint Mohammed Quran and Daa’wa Center gains profound symbolic value through its meticulously designed façade. Adorned with two Qur’anic verses, “Iqra” encourages Quranic study, while “Ede'” invites visitors, teachers, and staff to share the wisdom and advice of the Lord. These verses deliver a timeless message to all who behold the center.

Functionally, the Center is structured across four levels, each accommodating various activities. The basement houses an underground parking area and a recreational club zone, while the ground floor is dedicated to a multipurpose hall, administration, and reception. The two upper floors are designated for educational facilities, facilitating the center’s mission to educate and inspire.

The Moza Bint Mohammed Quran and Daa’wa Center, designed by TRUST, is a remarkable project that exemplifies modern architecture, cultural respect, and educational empowerment at the heart of Doha, Qatar.
